Jamaican beef patties are delicious flaky, golden puff pastry filled filled with a tasty spicy savory meat filling.

- DOUGH
3 ½ cups all purpose flour
1tbsp granulated sugar
1tbsp turmeric powder
1tbsp curry powder
1 tsp salt
1 2/3 cups cold butter milk
210g unsalted butter
100g vegetable shortening
- FILLING
500g ground beef
3 ½ tsp all-purpose seasoning
1tsp onion powder
1tsp garlic powder
1tsp ginger powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
¼ medium Onion
1 clove Garlic
2 stalks Scallion
12 Pimento seeds
¼ Scotch Bonnet Pepper
1 tsp Thyme leaves
2tbsp ketchup
1 cup water
½ tsp browning
½ cup breadcrumbs

1 egg
Directions
- DOUGH
- In a bowl add 3 cups of all-purpose flour, sugar, curry powder, turmeric powder, salt
- Wisk everything together to get all ingredients combined
- Add cold, cubed butter (110g), shortening (50g) to the flour mixture
- Use a fork or your hand to mix the ingredients together until you achieve a bread crumb like consistency
- Add milk to the mixture a little at a time until a dough is formed
- Cover the dough with a damped cloth or cling wrap and rest it in the fridge for 1 hr.
- FILLING:
- Add beef to a bowl
- Season beef with (all purpose seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, ginger powder , black pepper, salt, pimento seeds, olive oil)
- Rest the beef in the fridge for 30mins
- Add oil to pot over low heat and add fresh seasoning (onion, scallion, scotch bonnet pepper, garlic, dried thyme leaves ) and pimento seeds, carrot
- Sauté for 3-5 minutes
- Add beef and use a fork to separate the beef so it does not stick together
- Cover pot and allow beef to sweat or until add the redness has faded
- Add soy sauce and ketchup, mix and cover for 5 mins
- Add a mixture of browning and water
- 10. Add all-purpose seasoning according to your liking and cover pot for 10 mins
- 11. Add breadcrumbs and mix
- 12. Turn stove off and allow filling to cool completely
- Putting it together:
- Roll dough out on a floured surface to about 1 cm thick and add shredded butter and shortening
- Fold the dough then roll it out to about 1cm again
- Add remaining shredded butter and shortening , fold once more and then roll again
- Cut the dough into the sizes that you desire for your patties
- Add the cooled beef filling on one side of your dough
- Add egg wash to each end of the dough then seal with a fork
- Remove excess dough with a dough cutter if you so desire
- Brush the whole patty with egg wash
- Place patty on a lined tray and bake for 30-45mins at 350◦
